What We Carry Home: The cover of this anthology depicts the raven. The raven is, according to much of the mythology of the world, a protector, teacher, creator, trickster and bringer of great magic. Some believe he is the gods’ messenger in the mortal world. Others see him as a creature of paradox, a scavenger whose devious nature cannot be taken at face value. No other creature has evoked such strong emotion or crept so widely into the psyches of men and women. From the first story of our creation, the raven has been present to bring light into the darkness.
As writers and poets we are like ravens. We carry home our treasures and share them. What We Carry Home is a small offering of that sharing by sixty-two writers from Canada and further afield. We are all watchers and witnesses to the world and as writers we have a driven passion to observe, report, comment, and create art as a way of seeing, as a way of attaining voice.
